Baltimore Catechism No 1 and No 2
St. Anne's version of the Baltimore Catechism No 1 is very helpful for learning the basic Catholic beliefs for Pre-Confirmation! St. Anne's Audio Helper CDs serve as audio books for the Baltimore Catechism. They are "enhanced" to give you the verbatim and reproducible text of the audio catechism as well. No need to buy another booklet and they are re-useful for many students! Both the First Communion Audio Helper and the Confirmation Audio Helper have these features and contain an audio Baltimore Catechism No 1 "book". As you begin, and continue, to use these CDs be sure to check that your student can pronounce each word well and then each phrase well before using this recording (to aid memory). The enclosed text is a God send for this. The CDs are meant to supplement, not replace, the teacher's and parent's efforts. They do this quite well, whether the instructor uses a direct instruction/outcomes based method, or whether the instructor simply wishes to use explicit instruction of the facts in a low pressure setting. These CDs aid memorization in either setting. The CDs are meant to relieve some of the burden of drill and to help the student retain a large number of questions for any cumulative review before reception of the sacrament. These tracks are numbered exactly according to the enclosed Catechism Questions list (text on same enhanced CD) which makes it easier for even very young students to find the right audio catechism answer by track number. Generally, these CDs are not meant to be listened to straight through. This can be fine for an adult catechumen but would not be appropriate for a child. They consist only of a list from the Baltimore Catechism No 1 and No 2 meant to be learned three to five questions per week. Imagine the excellent help of being able to choose "repeat one" on the CD player when learning the Ten Commandments, Mysteries of the Rosary, and the Apostles Creed! A folder works well, too, for individual copywork pages. Either way, you always have a Catholic copybook on hand for writing practice!
