What is a Catechism copybook? A copybook of the Baltimore Catechism answers and the Catholic prayers for children.

Teaching the Catholic First Communion and Catholic Confirmation catechisms can be a big job for both catechists and parents. We know. We've done both and been both. Most of the trick is memorizing the answers and the prayers.

We've been catechists in our parish, used several Catholic home school programs that used the Baltimore Catechism. Memorizing the Baltimore Catechism and the Catholic prayers for children is easier with a copybook with printable worksheets that you can use in your catechism lessons or as homeschool worksheets.

Catholic Worksheets

St. Anne's Helper has beautiful Catholic worksheets that you can use individually or bind together into a copybook. They are a God-send for filling a required time with constructive work. Our Catholic worksheets use the Catholic answers from the Baltimore Catechism to the basic Catholic beliefs for both First Communion and Confirmation preparation. They have the same text as the audio book downloads. You can make multiple copies for your own use.

Each track on St. Anne's Helper Audio (CD or Download) for both First Communion and Confirmation has the same number as the text of the Audio CD, as well as the text of the copybook writing worksheets. This is a very handy feature when a particular answer is hard to memorize and needs extra practice or when you are trying to assign homework to match the catechism lesson.

The First Communion Copybook matches the First Communion Audio CD and the Confirmation Copybook matches the Confirmation Audio CD. They all use the Catholic answers to the questions for the sacraments of the Catholic Baptism, Penance, Holy Eucharist and Catholic Confirmation and complement most any Catholic Catechism course!

Printable Worksheets

Once the student has already memorized the answers; copying the text helps him to be able to learn to spell the words well. These are also great for the years between sacraments, what better review?

Rewriting the answers on these Catholic handwriting worksheets gives handwriting practice so that handwriting improves, too!

We have seen students that who struggled to read, simply continue to write the words and learning the phonograms really improve their reading skills. The extra copy work formed good habits and made words easier to recognize.

Since these pages are reproducible, the specific page needed can be printed from the catechism copybook downloads or the whole copybook can be printed and bound for a keepsake practice book or the individual printable worksheets can be printed and reprinted for practicing a longer answer like the Ten Commandments. This way pages can be reprinted for extra practice on a particular answer.

Use pre-drilled three-hole punched paper that can be written on and placed in a special binder for the purpose.

A spiral binding at an office supply store can remove the need and the hassle of using a binder. The book seems more special when it is spiral bound and it is less cumbersome to write in it. It is easier to keep all of the work together, too.

Using Catholic catechism copybook sheets as worksheets individually with dictation style teaching gives explicit instruction as to what the words say and can really boost reading and writing skills for all other courses of study - all on great material! Try practicing the Hail Mary or Our Father several times and find how many words young students learn to read easily.

When the teacher is busy with other students, extra pages can be printed for extra work for students who are finished early. This is very handy for the homeschool when unsupervised work or busy work is needed to keep busy minds and hands busy!

Need to memorize the Apostles' Creed or the Ten Commandments? Easy. Just go to the specific track and press "repeat one"! Do you want a self correcting quiz? Easy. The text of both the questions and their answers is included as a text file on the same CD or Download as the audio file! There's no need to buy another booklet. Better! This one is reproducible for as many copies as you need! No skipping homework because the booklet can't be found.
