Reading the lives of Roman Catholic saints brings the Catholic Faith to life! The lives of the saints are the very best way to learn that the Roman Catholic catechism is true!
The crown of the Roman Catholic religion is her martyrs and saints! Roman Catholic saints are the proof of the "holy" in our profession of Faith: "one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic" (Apostles' Creed). They are a proof that what we learn in the Roman Catholic catechism is true. We see some of the same heroic virtues and miracles in their lives as Our Lord Jesus Christ offered as His proofs that He is the Son of God! The history of the Catholic Church is truly written in their lives. As a matter of fact, some of the best explanations of the Catholic catechism come from the lives of the saints.
See our our Catholic books page and Catholic Audio Books pages for stories of the saints' lives and more good Catholic reading! Use our St. Anne's Helper free printable saint coloring pages and find more Catholic coloring pages to print for your Catholic catechism class, too. We have many LONG pages with several lists of fun coloring pages about saying the Rosary, about the saints and the Catholic prayers.
See our navigation columns for more on the Catholic saints.
It is easy to learn about saints from good books like Butler's Lives Of The Saints for high school (NOT Thurston and Attwater's version) and adults or from the Picture Book of Saints for children. There are many books that are either autobiographies, biographies or fiction that tell the stories of the saints. Are you looking for a Saint Patrick history? What about a great Saint Joan Of Arc Biography with dozens of excellent Joan Of Arc Pictures? She is one of the Catholic Church's greatest female saints! Have you published the Prayer to St. Martha in thanksgiving for favors received? Are you looking for the Saint Andrews Day Prayer?
The same principles that one would use to judge any good Catholic book apply to the stories of the saints: Do the stories tell the truth? Do they concur with Catholic doctrine? Do they tell the stories with a good presentation - no bad attitudes, no offensive art? We recommend the books published by Tan Books and Neumann Press since they have republished so many beautiful saints books with attention to detail.
Aquinas and More (St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Thomas More!) Catholic Church Goods has an excellent Saints List that lists each saint with his or her brief biography and pertinent gifts to buy like:
It tells whether they are patron saints and for which cause! This is the best Catholic saints list that we have seen since it has these resources all in one alphabetical saints list at the bottom of each page or the patron saints drop down list at the top right of each page and it can also be cross referenced several ways using their excellent site searches. Also, if you want to learn the history of the Catholic church, read the lives of the saints.
One of our favorite patron saints is St. Anne, Grandmother of Jesus and Mother of Mary! She is the patron saint of parents who teach their children. In her name we have created St. Anne's Helper's Audio Catechisms to teach the basic Catholic beliefs the very same way they were learned throughout the history of the Catholic Church. They are arranged with each question and its answer on its own track for easy navigation. Need to memorize the Apostles' Creed or the Ten Commandments? Easy. Just go to the specific track and press "repeat one"! Do you want a self correcting quiz? Easy. Just press "pause" between the question and the answer!
The text of both the questions and their answers is included as a text file on the same CD or Download as the audio file! There's no need to buy another booklet. Better! This one is reproducible for as many copies as you need! No skipping homework because the booklet can't be found.
The text of both the First Communion and the Confirmation Catechisms are available as Catechism Copybook Ebooks as well! They are also downloadable now. You can reprint as many as you would like for your own or classroom use. The First Communion Catechism Copybook is available in beautiful Manuscript. The Confirmation Catechism Copybook is available in either beautiful Manuscript or beautiful Cursive writing - your choice! They can be spiral bound at an office supply store, printed on 3-holed paper to keep in a binder (our favorite way), or used as printable worksheets. See these free cursive writing worksheets as examples of the copybooks.
St. Anne's Helper recommendations for learning the Baltimore Catechism, reading about Roman Catholic saints, and learning the Roman Catholic prayers are made with the hope that God will grant us many Catholic saints! Please remember to pray for all of us and share with family and friends. You and yours are included in our daily Rosary.
