Did you know that the Catholic Ten Commandments are not a direct quote from the Catholic Bible? We didn't. We also did not know that the Protestants have an even further different Decalogue, not including the various paraphrases. You can be certain to learn or teach the Catholic Ten Commandments when you use St. Anne's Audio Catechism CDs for both First Communion and Catholic Confirmation. It is handy to be able to use "repeat one" to review when memorizing them!
Learning the Ten Commandments is important for being able to make a good confession. Usually, one learns the Ten Commandments before his first confession. Another time that we need to review or memorize the Commandments is in preparation for Confirmation. The better disposed we are to receive the sacraments, the better we will persevere in the Faith. Frequently this means that the better we study or know the truths of the Catholic Religion the easier it is to keep the Faith.
1. I am the Lord thy God; thou shalt not have strange gods before me.
2. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
3. Remember thou keep holy the Lord‘s Day.
4. Honor thy father and thy mother.
5. Thou shall not kill.
6. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
7. Thou shalt not steal.
8. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
9. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife.
10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods.
There are many more than the ten "Thou shalt nots" in the book of Exodus XX. The Decalogue as seen in the Baltimore Catechism is extracted from Exodus in a concise way so as to convey the meaning of the text in an easy to memorize way. Also, remember that the Douay-Rheims Bible Old Testament says "Sabbath", yet many of the Baltimore Catechisms use the term "Lord's Day" since the Catholic day of rest became Sunday, not Saturday, in honor of the Resurrection and Pentecost. Whenever there is a difference in Catholic answers the morally safer course is to use the more precise terms, especially those in use for over one hundred years.
St. Anne's Audio Catechism CDs also use the term "Lord's Day" in the Catholic habit of using specific terms. The verbatim text is also printable and reprintable from the very same enhanced CD!
Simply put, the Catholic Church teaches that we believe what the Apostles' Creed,Catholic Ten Commandments, and the Catholic Bible teach. Catholic saints are the ones who heroically did what the Catholic Church has always taught.
The Apostles' Creed teaches what we believe, the Catholic Ten Commandments teach what God told us to do and what not to do, and the Catholic Sacraments give us the supernatural grace necessary to do it! The Catholic Faith is simple enough for His little ones and intricate enough for such as St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Thomas More! Once you know the basics in the Catholic religion you can better judge what the truth is.

Genesis 1:28-30 " And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth. And God said: Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed upon the earth, and all trees that have in themselves seed of their own kind, to be your meat: And to all beasts of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to all that move upon the earth, and wherein there is life, that they may have to feed upon. And it was so done."
Decisions in life are easier when you know the principles as God formed them in the Catholic Ten Commandments.

Next after teaching the Catholic Ten Commandments the First Communion audio catechism CD and its Copybook uses the simple expansion of the Commandments from the book Jesus Comes
. This expansion has very clear "tells and forbids"
questions and answers for each of the Ten. They may be a bit much for little ones to memorize, but they are great for review before receiving the sacrament of Penance in order to better understand which acts are sinful.
The Douay-Rheims Bible is the Roman Catholic Bible that has the best "translation" from the Latin Vulgate of St. Jerome. The original meaning was simply "carried" (trans-) from the original Vulgate. Many other versions, including the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine "version", are not true translations but mere paraphrases. Remember that the Douay-Rheims Bible was translated at a time when every word mattered to the point of martyrdom. The Anglicans in England were ready to kill Catholics over such matters as true Catholic education as they did St. Margaret Clitherow. She was a martyr to the Protestant laws and taxes against her children's Catholic education!
When using a "version" of the Baltimore Catechism
be sure that its Bible quotes use the most reliable Catholic Bible. These relate the story around the Catholic Ten Commandments faithfully. There is no certitude like seeing or hearing the whole story!
Other clues are: testament is changed to covenant (see the Haydock Douay-Rheims foreword to see that one does not have to die for a covenant which removes the emphasis from Our Lord's Redemptive Act), tabernacle is reduced to tent, words of authority are changed to clerical words (governor for official), and unisex language. See the Catechism of the Bible (1924) for the Catholic Church's history of using English words derived from Latin.
The principle of non-contradiction is in force with many of the differing terms as can be seen between "she shall" and "he shall".
Once you know these principles it becomes easier to choose a book with the best Catholic answers!
