Baby Jesus and Christmas Traditions
Christmas traditions depend upon the birth of Christ. It is around this historical event that Christmas customs are formed. Christmas means "Christ Mass" just like the terms Candlemas on the Feast of the Purification means "Candle Mass" and Michaelmas on the Feast of St. Michael means "Michael Mass": Candlemas Day, Michaelmas Day, and Christmas Day, etc.We pray during the Roman Catholic Advent Season in order to prepare and to do penance to prepare our souls for the coming of Jesus. The better we prepare our souls the happier our Christmas will be.
Christmas Day is Jesus' Birthday! It was the first manifestation that our hope in eternal life is true! The main gift should go to Him. We should remember Him by assisting at Mass since it is a Catholic Holy Day of Obligation and saying prayers that reflect our gratitude to Him for all that He has given us.

Advent and Christmas Traditions
Usually we've had exactly enough children to be some factor of 24 (1,2,3,4,6,8), so we start our Advent calendar on Dec 1 and take turns who gets to open the doors, etc.Please include ad link.
We begin our Advent Wreath and Creche on the First Sunday of Advent (which is not Dec 1 very often!). We keep an extra set of Advent Candles each year so as to be able to set up in time for the First Sunday in Advent.
One of our favorite Advent and Christmas traditions is to set up the Nativity scene by the First Sunday of Advent so that we can watch the shepherds moving through the village, Joseph and Mary's very long walk, Baby Jesus' arrival; and eventually the Three Wise Men's arrivals and departures! Daddy helps us dress it up with farm animals from his old train set and we use mini-Christmas ornament type trees and such that we add every year.
Advent calendars and Advent candles, Catholic books, and a Catholic liturgical calendar, are warm reminders of our Catholic Faith and Jesus' birthday. Catholic children's books can be treasured for a lifetime and giving them is one of our favorite Christmas traditons!
