Journey to Bethlehem

Journey to Bethlehem at OLOP

Journey to Bethlehem at OLOP

Hi Kevin,

I raised five children and now have the pleasure of raising The Poppit, a delicious little granddaughter.

This year we moved to Donvale, in Victoria and she had to change schools...quite traumatic for her, but we received such a warm welcome from the Our Lady of The Pines (OLOP) Community.

This Christmas the Poppit took part in the most unique experience that I have ever seen in a school.

The OLOP has a Christmas Tradition where the school children and teachers dress up in costumes of the time when Jesus was born.

They all then stage at different times throughout the day and into the evening, an actual Journey to Bethlehem. This complete with Donkey, Mary and Joseph, Centurions, Market people, a manger, farm animals and various other spectators is quite a sight!

The evening journey was extra special this year as there was a real live baby Jesus laying in the straw manger!

It was such a moving experience for the Poppit and myself...I look forward to seeing it again the next year.

A great Christmas Tradition, one I will remember forever.

Regards,
Marylyn(SuperNan)

Australia! Our Lady of the Pines Christmas Traditions
by: Mary

Oh, Marylyn! What a fabulous Christmas Tradition! This reminds me of the Passion Plays that other parishes have that are so moving. We have eight still here at home and they were enchanted by your picture of St. Joseph and Mary on their journey to Bethlehem! They like Our Lady of the Pines already, too! You are so fortunate to have this. It is programs like this during the Advent season that really remind our children that Jesus' Birthday is coming and helps remind all of us to prepare for the real Reason for the Season. I am moved by the logistics that must be involved at OLOP. Please say hello to sweet Mary and tell St. Joseph that he makes the best St. Joseph we have seen! Oh! and tell the donkey that he is the cutest donkey we have seen - even in paintings. They look so genuine framed as they are in your good picture!
