Nativity Celebration

by Michael Boyter
(Wasilla, Alaska)

Christmas nativity celebration in Palmer, Alaska

Christmas nativity celebration in Palmer, Alaska

A more recent family Christmas tradition is that of attending a community nativity display and celebration. It is held each year at a local church in Palmer, Alaska.

The picture that you see is only the tip of the iceberg. There were 10 different rooms, all with varying nativity themes.

Additionally there were paintings and cross-stitched nativity scenes.

It is an event where people of all faiths can come listen to community, church and school choirs perform Christmas carols...while viewing nearly any type of nativity that you can imagine.

All the nativities displayed were from the private collections of members of the community. It makes for a very special Christmas tradition and helps us all to remember the real meaning of Christmas.

Christmas Traditions in Alaska!
by: Mary

This must be such an amazing display. Your great picture shows an astonishing collection alone, ten rooms must just be phenomenal! Alaska seems to us here in Kansas to be ready for the Christmas spirit simply because of the cold and the snow, it is hard for us to imagine being able to travel and put on such a grand show in honor of Jesus' birthday. Thanks for sending this, our children are thrilled with the story and the picture. It would be great to hear the Christmas carols, too, since they really add to the celebration! The Christmas paintings and cross-stitched Nativity scenes must have been breathtaking to see, especially many in one place! You are right that this celebration reminds of the real meaning of Christmas.
