Saying the Rosary is easy once you know the prayers. It is even easier when you have someone lead the Rosary prayers for you. Cradle Catholics usually learn how to pray the Rosary before their First Communion or during the First Communion year. The prayers of the Rosary are the most common prayers that Catholics say. We use the Our Father prayer, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be in many other devotions and novenas, especially to gain the indulgence given to other prayers. The rosary beads shown above have the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries named on the Our Father "beads". The other rosary is great for little hands and I would add for old or infirm hands, too. I have found it very helpful some nights to have had a large beaded rosary to help me count the beads.
Remember that it is best to pray the Rosary using blessed rosary beads because you gain more graces using the sacramental, it shows more confidence. Also, it is good to have a priest bless your new rosary with the different Rosary blessings to increase the number of graces you can receive while praying the Rosary.
Generally, when you begin saying the Rosary you should kneel, make the sign of the cross and read, or memorize, the following prayers in this order while counting on a set of Catholic rosary beads:
Repeat this decade 5 times.
You can memorize the prayers of the Rosary while saying the Rosary, especially the Hail Mary.
Read the following prayers or follow them on our St. Anne's Helper Catholic Rosary video:
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy Kingdom come; Thy Will be done On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our tresspasses As we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with thee; Blessed art thou amongst women, And blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, And to the Son, And to the Holy Ghost,
As it was in the beginning, Is now, and ever shall be. Amen.
Hail Holy Queen! Mother of Mercy, Our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, Mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary, Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, That we may be made worthy Of the promises of Christ. Amen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

The two important parts of saying the Rosary are: praying the prayers as above and meditating on the lives of Jesus and Mary for each mystery. Using a video makes it easy for those new to the Rosary to learn the prayers, for those who will teach them to children, and to keep your place while meditating on the Mysteries of the Rosary. Think about it, by the time most people say the Hail Mary 53 times, they know it.
Reading The Secret Of The Rosary, by St. Louis de Montfort explains many things about the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary and is an excellent introduction to the Rosary, the history of the Rosary and the virtues that we can gain by saying the Rosary. The publisher says that it is, "Probably the finest book ever written about the Rosary; appeals to all ages. Shows the great spiritual power of the Catholic Rosary.... Imprimatur." St. Louis DeMontfort's love of the Blessed Virgin Mary is simply contagious! This is an excellent gift for those who are new to praying the Rosary because it is so helpful in teaching one to know, love and serve God through Jesus Christ by His chosen channel, "Son behold thy Mother".
Praying the Holy Rosary, truly praying it, can be a trick. I am glad when I read in the 15 Promises of the Rosary that Our Lady asks us to "recite" the Rosary because I am guilty of thousands of rosaries that I did not actually "pray". Saying the Rosary while meditating on the Mysteries of the Rosary with a picture that represents the mystery is can help keep one's mind on the mystery. Our St. Anne's Helper free Rosary Card PDF can help keep your mind on the mysteries while you pray the prayers and follow the beads. There is a little picture that represents each of the 15 Mysteries of the Rosary to help you think of what Jesus and Mary did for us and to help you remember to pray for the virtues you'll receive when you pray the Rosary. Remember that praying is easy when all that is required is to raise your mind and your heart to God, so make that mental act when you're saying the Rosary.
Here is a short History of the Rosary and St. Dominic Guzman.
Why do we promote the 15 Mysteries of the Rosary? Because the Blessed Virgin Mary herself and great saints have asked us to do so and because there are so many blessings conferred from praying the Rosary the way that Our Lady asked and the Catholic Church has approved for long and fruitful centuries. See an excellent exposition of this and other great ideas for saying the Rosary at Fisheaters. They have the prayers for praying the Rosary in Latin, Biblical meditations using the Douay-Rheims Bible, some history of the Rosary, and some Rosary tips for praying the Rosary.
